This project was born from my experiences traveling Turkey and the UAE. I became enamored with the islamic patterns that ornament the historic mosques and palaces. Tessellating geometric forms cover every available surface, at times inducing vertigo as the patterns seemingly reshaped the spaces they adorn. My goal with ‘Islamic Kaleidoscopes’ is to convey the overwhelming sensation of inhabiting these visually spectacular sites.
Photos were taken in Istanbul and Abu Dhabi at these locations:
Hagia Sophia, Sultanahmet, Tokpaki Palace & Sheikh Zayed Mosque
